How Does the Emerging Church Misrepresent the Lord Jesus Christ?
The first and most profoundly disturbing thing about the emergent church is that it does not want to be defined by its actual proponents. So we are required to do this little favor for them. Since they write books (some are even "ground-breaking") to make a living, sell DVD's and put their sermons on their websites - this is not too difficult. They are greatly disturbed by truth via proposition. And, thus, clarity of thought from the Holy Scriptures seems to be their only "unpardonable sin." But deeply embedded in this lack of clarity is a growing "love" of community by which we mean "corporate experience based spirituality."
So they have this one very serious and deadly flaw which seems to continually divert them from True Faith. The say they love the "incarnational" Jesus but fail to recognize Him as the Jesus of Propositional Truth. This divides Him when He is not divisible.
But the Jesus of the Incarnation was and is:
1. The One whose Kingdom was prophesied in the O.T. and inaugurated in the N.T.
and CLEARLY explained to the saints of God.
2. The One whose Kingdom will come WITH Him in His return on the Clouds of
Heaven at the end of this present evil age.
3. The One who said that He Himself, in His Redemptive Work, was the only way
into this Kingdom and resultant "community" of the saints is a change of status,
allegiance and eternal destiny.
4. The One who was in His Incarnation the Lord and Teacher of Propositional
Truth.
5. The One who did NOT became "conflicted" within Himself post-resurrection and
ascension in choosing Paul to be His Apostle, whose thoughts He obviously later
found out He could not control.
6. The One who is in Absolute Authority over the one who came to Him in His
temptation in the wilderness and offered Him the "kingdoms of this present evil
age" if He would simply bow down and worship him.
7. The One whose Kingdom is STILL not of this world.
Sorry Brian, Rob, Doug, et.al. Yours is a substitute that lacks any real Biblical backbone.
